David Silverman Wrangling Punk Farm
Helping MGM's re-animation

David Silverman Wrangling Punk Farm

The last time MGM attempted an animated movie, the result was 1989's All Dogs Go to Heaven. With every major studio currently taking a crack at some pixellated cuteness though, it was only a matter of time before the revivified MGM joined the competition, and their entry will be Punk Farm, directed by David Silverman.

Silverman has been chosen as an experienced pair of hands, having been long associated with The Simpsons, directed The Simpsons Movie and co-directed Monsters Inc. David Stern is currently working on a second draft of the screenplay by Jim Hecht (Ice Age: The Meltdown), and the animation is being handled by FX company Prana Studios, who worked on Tron: Legacy.

Punk Farm is based on a picture book by Jarrett J Krosoczka, about a group of animals who like to rock out when the farmer has gone to bed. The drummer is a cow, the guitarist is a pig, the bass player is a goat, there's a chicken on keyboards, and Sheep is the singer. And yes, it sounds as if they do knock out a version of Old Macdonald, although we'd surmise that theirs is more a palatable Green Day sort of punk, and not-so-much influenced by Crass.

Krosoczka also wrote a follow-up, Punk Farm On Tour, which means that if there's a movie franchise it'll follow the template of The Comic Strip's Bad News films and end up with the group getting bottled off at Donington. Possibly.

Give us your barnyard punk puns in the comments below. Never Mind the Bullocks, anyone? Cowpat Rock? Husbandry in Cambodia?

Your Comments

Silverman is excellent choice!
Silverman's artistic talent and style, plus his knowledge of music (he is also a professional tuba player), make him the best director to hopefully put MGM back on the map. More
