David O. Russell On Uncharted And More
Who might play Elena?

01 February 2011  |  Written by Alastair Plumb

submit to reddit

Let's make this clear - there's a question mark in the title, so you're best off filing this one under "casual conjecture", but as casual conjecture is the lifeblood of the internet, we thought we'd share.

You see, we were lucky enough to grab a quarter of an hour on the phone with The Fighter director David O. Russell, and, needless to say, we took the chance to talk about his next project, the video-game-to-film adaptation of the PS3 smash hit, Uncharted.

More specifically, we asked whether Amy Adams might be a good fit for the female journalist character, Elena. His response:

"Oh I would love that too, I love Amy. I also love Scarlett Johansson; there’s a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we’ll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role…"

Scarlett. Scarlett Johansson. As Elena... now there's an idea. Especially as Russell has been mentioning Wahlberg as a potential Nathan Drake and Robert De Niro as his best friend and mentor, Victor "Sully" Sullivan. It would be some sort of game-to-movie dream team, no?

Anyway, for more details, head to the interview itself, and when you're done there, come back here and let us know your thoughts. Excited about an Uncharted movie adaptation? Think it shouldn't happen at all? Is Wahlberg right for it? Let us know in the comment box below.

Oh, and by the way, The Fighter is out in the UK February 2. Just so you know.

Nathan Fillion. He even wanted to do it. Bloody terrible producers, he's got great cloud with the mainstream cus of Castle right now! ... More

The only way this would be a dream project is....
...if Walberg dropped out of it. He seems nice in a recent mag interview BUT the part needs someone funny, likeable and heroic. Walhberg has an expresionless face and no charisma. More

Mark Wahlberg looks like Drake, but he just doesn't have the charisma. Nathan Fillion would be a pretty good choice and I'm not saying that just because he is Nathan Fillion. De Niro is dead on for Sully, but I kind of connect Elena with Kristen Bell. More

Oy O. Russell, noooooooo. Cannot believe he wants to/is using Wahlberg as Nate. Has he even played the games (I hope you asked him Emipre) because half an hour on the PS3 should convince him Mark is all kinds of wrong for the part. It's not like remaking an old movie or book where you can re-imagine the character, the Uncharted series is still running and I'm sure that a large portion of the millions of fans (like myself) will be disappointed. Fillion definitely gets my vote as he has the ideal More

Nathan Fillion for Drake
Nathan Fillion IS Nathan Drake. I swear sometimes when I'm playing the game I think it's Nathan Fillion on the screen. I wouldn't mind Amy Adams as Elena but not Scarlett Johanssen. It's seems like a boring choice. More

No Wahlberg
Can't wait to see the adventures of Nathan Drake up on the big screen. But I really don't think Wahlberg is the man for the job. Nathan Filion would be a lot better. Or maybe Brandon Routh??? More

Re: Mark Wahlberg...NO!
Jennifer aniston? Are you mentally ill? He's talking about talented people like Scarlett Johansson and Amy Adams, do you want it to be shite? And everybody, we all love Fillian, but when the hell are you all gonna accept that he's never gonna land a lead in a major studio flick. They don't like him, he doesn't sell tickets, get over it, move on. More

RE: David O. Russell On Uncharted And More
Mark Wall-berg is the worst choice for the role of Nathan Drake, he may have buzz but he doesn't have charisma (his face is as expressive as concrete - he doesn't have the grin, the boyish charm, the good looks, the extra "something"). The only way I will see this movie is if Nathan Fillion is Drake, the rest of the cast I don't give a S*** about. You can cast whoever you want as Elena, Chloe, Sully, etc but Fillion is Drake, no negotiation. Mark Wahlberg flopped as Max Payne because he w More

Stop right there Mr. O'Russell
Marky Mark would be a disaster as Nathan Drake. It's clear the people want Nathan Fillon in the lead role. Sure he's not an A list actor, but he brings something to any film/TV series he appears in...........it's called charisma. Something I don't think Mr Wahlberg has a great deal of when in front of camera Remember his role as Charlie Croker in the Italian Job remake, yes that's right the role where a plank of wood could have given a better performance. Sure he's good in The Fighter and More

Mark Wahlberg...NO!
I will be greatly disappointed if it isn't Nathan Fillion. It almost seems like the character was modelled on the actor. As for the female lead, I think Jenifer Aniston. They're the two people I see when playing the games. More

I'd rather see a Romancing The Stone reboot
Wahlberg's a fine actor but he doesn't have the rogue-ish charisma to play a hero (exhibit A: Planet of the Apes) you'd want to root for unlike Ford or Fillion. With a bit of hair dye, Ryan Reynolds could do it but he's too busy being a superhero. More
