DiCaprio Talks Inception
Expect multiple, simultaneous narratives

16 March 2010  |  Written by Helen O'Hara

submit to reddit

When we talked to Leonardo DiCaprio about his latest film with Martin Scorsese, Shutter Island, we took the chance to ask him about this summer's Inception, the brain-bending new effort from The Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan.

You can hear what he had to say below, but if you're more a reader than a watcher, here are the high points.

"It is complicated. It's a complicated story-structure, but it's sprung from the great filmmaker Christopher Nolan's mind, and he's been able to take highly complex jigsaw puzzles in a narrative and put them together like we've never seen."

"This is a plot-structure that's working on multiple layers simultaneously - and quite literally when I say simultaneously, I do mean multiple narratives simultaneously. So everyone's going to be in for a treat when they see it, including me."

Inception is out on July 16 in the UK and US. Shutter Island's out now, and is really rather good.

'The Great Film-maker Chris Nolan' (TM)
When Leo Dicaprio says this it sounds pretty glib. It's funny that every guy in the industry has to refer to the director they are working with as 'Great' or 'Genius'...as if their egos weren't big enough. More

I Believe In Christopher Nolan
If you have any doubt of his skills as a writer watch Following. It's very low budget, cheap looking, and poorly acted. But the plot is as good as anything he's done since (there's even an ironic Batman reference). If he can achieve that with a thousand dollars, he's going to do something special with a hundred million. More

RE: Dicaprio 2nd B-Movie outing this year. Coming soon...
And I thought it was just me that thought this about Dark Knight....... and Batman Begins come to think of it. L: rpem22 I'm not 100% sure but I can almost guarantee Nolan's Inception is going to be a seriously messy film. Nolan no doubt believes his own hype on iocre Dark Knight about to make another 'complex jigsaw'... I can see reality is about to become mighty obvious in the surreal world of Inception. More

Blue Ryan
Paul Thomas Anderson!!! Woo Nah but Inception SHOULD be a cracker, but with all these tiny little details coming out could the story be revealed before the release just by the interviewers? More

This might possibly be, my most hyped mvie ever. The thing is, is that as my favorite director (other than Paul Thomas Anderson), Chrsitopher Nolan has yet to even put a foot wrong. The trailers are both sublime, Decaprio and Levitt are always brill and it's seriously unlikely that Nolan will fuck up his most "personal film yet". Enough with the pessimism PLEASE. I wish Nolan and crew all the best for this film More

woahhhh...
what the jiminy crickets was that bit with the buildings going all bendy and shit?! I like Leo. He's a good guy, does some damn good movies and even survived Titanic (even though Jack didn't!) I also LOVED Momento. outstanding. Thing is, I didn't really get all the fuss with Dark Knight. It's a Batman movie. Bale was all up his own arse as usual and then you had old twitchy Heath Ledger (good but NOT the best thing since squeezy cheez) and then Nolan being all serious and dark and OH MY More

Another movie ruined for me
I have nothing against Leo. He is a good, solid actor. I just don't like watching him act. I walked away from Shutter Island thinking that was a good movie, but if wasn't the lead role, I probably would have left thinking, that was a great movie! I fear this may be the same for me. I'll be paying to see it all the same thanks to Nolan. More

Exciting
This is good to get actual comments from the star of the film, he has given me an idea of what it will be like, but obviously not what its about, but who cares it's a Nolan film and Leo even says he would like to see it how its put together so i don't even think he knows fully what is going on :D So booking my ticket to this More
