Todd Field Accepts The Creed Of Violence

Update: It's been a long slog, with Leonardo DiCaprio flirting with the lead at one point, but according to Variety, Field finally has the money to make the movie a reality. He's set to kick off filming early next year in Southwest America and Mexico. 

Todd Field has a pretty solid record as a feature director, with Little Children and In The Bedroom both garnering widespread acclaim and Oscar nominations. So we're pleased to report that he's set to adapt, and possibly direct,The Creed of Violence, the new novel by Boston Teran.

Teran is the author of cult novel God Is A Bullet, and Creed is his second novel, which is just about to be released. Its story is set on the Mexican-American border in 1910, where a criminal called Rawbone buys a truckload of arms to take to Mexico where revolution is brewing. Nicked by the Bureau of Investigation, he is coerced into going through with his plan as an undercover agent, accompanied by Agent John Lourdes - who has a secret history with Rawbone.

While Field is only signed as a writer for now, he has only written features that he's also directed to date, hence the possibility that he might become the director of this as well. But then he's rather busy: he's also adapted, and is set to direct, Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, which Ridley Scott had previously been attached to make.

The Creed of Violence will be published this autumn; there's no word yet on when we can expect to see the film.

Can't Wait!
Todd Field is one of my favorite filmmakers. It's true his films are filled with violence that is shocking and takes your breath away, but it always serves the story and is never cheap like a lot of the yank, hacky, directors over there. The performances he's gotten from Wilkinson, Haley, Spacek, Tomei and Winslet are among their career bests which says a lot about his strength with actors.
