Inglourious Basterds Gets A Release Date
Tarantino goes to war on August 21

01 January 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara

submit to reddit

The film that singlehandedly proves that movie fans can be excited about a film despite horrendous misspelling, Quentin Tarantino's  Inglourious Basterds, has a release date - and it's August 21, 2009.

The World War II-set film stars Brad Pitt as Lieutenant Aldo Raine, the leader of a group of Jewish soldiers carrying out targetted acts of retribution against the Nazis in Occupied France. They join with undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) to try to take down the leaders of the Third Reich, but their plans bring them into contact with a Jewish woman, Shoshanna (Mélanie Laurent) who has her own revenge plans.

The new release date for the US puts the film up against horror Final Destination: Death Trip 3D and comedy The Goods: The Don Ready Story. It's a summer blockbuster sort of slot - a similar release date to Tropic Thunder last year - and while it hasn't been confirmed yet if the UK release date will be the same, expect it to come not too long after that day.

UK First !
It'l probably tank in the US and we'll get some pishy edited down version as usual. Open in the UK first, or at least simultaneous, Tarantino's films have always performed better here. More

I'm there (well when it's released in Blighty anyway)
It's been a long time coming, I hope Brad swears like any other Tarantino icon. It'll mean more when spoken to Nazis. Please let it be combination of The Dirty Dozen, Pulp Fiction (dialogue-wise), Resevoir Dogs, and Kill Bill 1. Sweet. More

Will this mean that Morriconnie will have time to do the score as reported before? Many elements of this get me excited but Ennio providing the score is the cream on top and it will be first time QTs had a score commissioned for one of his films, usually using other peoples scores. QT did want this for Cannes and EM has said it would probabaly effext him accepting and QT would use his usual method if this wasn't possible using existing scores including Morrconnie's most likely.
