Indy IV Picture Thief Off To Jail
In your face, bad man!

02 November 2007  |  Written by Olly Richards

submit to reddit

Roderick Davis, the man who stole over 2,000 stills from Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull has pleaded guilty to charges of receiving stolen property and commercial burglary. Davis, 37, will serve two years and four months in jail as part of his plea deal. Without the plea deal, Davis would have spent at least four years behind bars.

Davis was arrested on Oct. 4 with the help of internet film sites who informed police that they were being offered the chance to buy the illegally obtained photos. Police then posed as potential buyers and set up a meeting with Davis. When he arrived trying to flog the pictures, they only went and bleedin' nicked him.

Though Empire had no actual part in the apprehending of this criminal, we like to think that our very existence as part of the internet really helped. Some would say this man would still be at large if it wasn't for us. Some say we're heroes – maybe the greatest of heroes. But we don't need your thanks, just your respect, cash and maybe that nice watch you're wearing there.

Jailed Picture Thief
Why was he jailed for two years and four months. It's a little harsh like. Personally I think that the majority of Indy fans would've stolen a glimpse of those pics if they had the chance. I mean two years for this. God the justice system. Shouldn't they be worrying about murderers, rapists, kidnappers etc then a person (possibly an avid fan) stealing "precious" pics of a film due out in a few months. Ridiculous!!! More

I think I helped in his arrest somewhat. After all, I'm Joe Public and it's me that wants to see all these images. No wonder he nicked them all, it's cos I demand them so much. More

RE: Indy IV Picture Thief Off To Jail
L: lukeyboy Two and a half years for nicking a few photo's?...fuckin hell,..what's the world coming to, Manslaughter carries a more lenient sentence! I've heard of rapists going down for less time, and some of you are saying good job? Get some perspective for christ's sake! sp; In America Rapists get a lot longer than that and rightly so. The Motherfucker got all he deserved. We need to get perspective here and start sentencing properly in the UK. Politics over, Indy rules, YAY. More

L: Olly Richards L: coomi01 But you didnt do anything. You reported this story and thats about it. God, get over yourselves. can't tell if you're joking or couldn't tell that I was joking. I do actually realise that we had absolutely no part in this man's apprehension (or did we? Who was that masked man?). Not everything on this site should be taken completely seriously. sp; I don`t think he was joking   And that makes me weep. More

Let's get objective
The man is going to spend 2 years in jail for selling snaps from the set of an Indiana Jones movie. A movie! Vague online stills do nothing but water the appetites of the potential audience, anyway. I've read about child molesters doing less time than this. Spielberg needs talking to, rather than kissing his ass. More

L: Evil_Bob Absolutely but you'd still do less time for shoplifting of something else or a similar nature. sp; I'd guess the sentence is based on the sales value of the stolen photos, which is obviously quite a lot - presumably this explains the reference to "commercial burglary". More

tough but fair
Give it a rest. Some of us are desperately awaiting this movie. We know we should have better things to do with our time... but , we don't. And yes, theft is theft. So bollocks to the little bleeder who nicked the photos. He's trying to get rich off the back off someone who's doing their job and making entertainment for us. Would anyone out there like it if someone came along to our place of work, nicked something we had created and then tried to get loads of money for it??? No. Probably More

Agreed with Mojo. Theft is theft, and it was good the LA police managed to take him down so quickly. At least the crook pleaded guilty and not tried to draw this out emberassingly. More
