First Look At Jarhead!
Trailer online for Sam Mendes' latest

No sooner was the, er, pixel dry on our Jarhead poster story (here) than the first full-length trailer for Sam Mendes' Gulf War drama debuts online.

The rather fantastic trailer, which you can see here, gives us a little glimpse of the life of the Marines that forms the bulk of the film. The story follows raw recruit, or Jarhead, Anthony Swofford (who wrote the memoirs on which the film is based) as he goes through basic training and heads for Iraq in the first Gulf War.

The trailer itself is rather good, although it gives away very little of the story and almost nothing about the characters. The tone looks to be rather similar to Buffalo Soldiers – which is no bad thing – and from the little we can see here, there's some black comedy to leaven the war drama. Oscars 2006? Well, Mendes has form, as do co-stars Chris Cooper and Jamie Foxx, so fingers crossed. We're very much looking forward to this – and we'll keep you up to date as the release date draws closer.
