Thought it would be a good idea to have a bond thread. I have been a bond fan since i was young i watched them every bank holiday. All of the bond movies are my favorite apart from OHMSS

Dr. No ,From Russia With Love , Goldfinger , Thunderball, You Only Live Twice , Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die
The Man With The Golden Gun , The Spy Who Loved Me

My Favs are Tomorrow Never Dies, Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, Licence To Kill and Casino Royale.

Why the dislike of OHMSS? It's probably not the best of the Bond's, but it does have it's good parts.

I think if Connery had been in OHMSS then it would be hailed as one of the best Bond films. For all its faults (OK mainly Lazenby) it has some stunning action sequences, a great love story and the best Bond soundtrack that has been made. It seems pretty silly to leave it out whilst including the dire Moore era and Diamonds are Forever.

Yeah TMWNS is bang on the money (again). I think OHMSS is one of the better Bonds even with Lazenby (it's that frilly shirt he wears - it's so bad but so good!). I like most of the Bond flicks. The period i hate most is Moore's. It really started to turn into a joke when he came in.

Moore and connery where the best bonds ever . I wish i had the whole collection but i dont ! Are there any more bond fans out there ? I like Live and let die alot the ending is great .

Why are you such a fan of Moore? What do you see in him that makes him a good Bond? You won't convert me but i'd like to understand.

Early Moore was good, he had a certain hard/mean edge to him. But once the comedy stated to assert itself, Moore became the joke.
I liked Lazenby, if he had more of a chance he could have become a great Bond. And Connery's Bond couldn't have done the final scene from OHMSS.

Dont get me wrong, I think The Spy Who Loved me is great, and he isnt bad in the first three, but he's just too comedic and silly to be Bond. After Moonraker the films practically became unwatchable due to a combination of Moores geriatric antics and farcsical scripts.

He certainly gets more flak than he deserves, its hard to come after such a great Bond as Connery, who lets face it, made Bond his own. The only thing comparable to them is the Indiana Jones Trilogy.
I think my favourite of the lot of them though is From Russia With Love. Tautly directed, an interesting plot which sees Bond fall closer and closer into a trap as the film progresses, believable villains, exotic locations, memorable characters and one extremely good-looking Bond girl all makes for superior entertainment. The fist fight on the Orient Express is one of the most brutal exchanges in the entire canon of Bond films, and that was the 1960's. Whatsmore it works as a thriller on its own rather than just a Bond movie and is devioid of all gimmickery that was to ruin the series as it went on.
Plus it has a gypsy bitch-fight. Whats not to like?

I was born in 1968, so my first access to Bond was TV showings.
It was never Connery, Lazenby or Moore it was always James Bond! As I grew older watching the repeats every time they were on TV, I began to understand the differences. Connery was the cool, hard man, Moore the self aware charmer in Bond films that looked more up to date. Lazenby, however was unique. He was the Bond that fell in love and had it all taken away. As a youngster, I'd never seen a film that ended like that. And that's why I always have a soft spot for OHMSS.
The only Bond films I feel that were under par were Diamonds Are Forever, Man With The Golden Gun, Die Another Day (Elvis on a surfboard, oh dear)
I know Moonraker should be amongst them but it was the 1st Bond film I saw at the cinema.
I suppose the fact i've grown up with Bond I do tend to see a lot of them through rose coloured glasses!

Anyway, i'm glad Bond is back on track (Casino Royale was excellent) and roll on Bond 22!

connery is associated most with the role but i thought dalton was a damn good bond, moore looked like someones uncle in a safari suit, dalton looked like he'd kill you without thinking twice about it, same as craig

fave movies: goldfinger,license to kill, casino royale, ohmss, spy who loved me,havea soft spot for octopussy too as its the one ive seen the most thanks to itvs yearly bond season

I love James Bond. Growing up Moore was my Bond and I even have a soft spot for his latter outings. Connery is still the best, though Daniel Craig impressed in his first outing. Fav Bond films (in order):

1. Goldfinger
2. The Spy Who Loved Me
3. Casino Royale
4. Goldeneye
5. License to Kill

I hhave always loved bond films. As a child growing up in the 80s Moore was always my fav but as time went on and i watch more of them i noticed how great Connery is in the role and how he made it the success it is. Moores films are great togue in check and i do enjoy them for the light heartness of them. I never really liked Dalton until a few years again when i watched his films again and they have aged well, he has a hard edge that Craig has now taken up. I loved Brosnan at first but his last 2 outings were poor and he was on autopilot and not doing anything new.

I went to see Goldfinger the other week at the cinema as part of the British Film Season it was great seeing the old Bond film on the big screen. Would love to see more of them on the big screen.

My favs include Goldfinger, Thunderball, ,OHMSS, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me and Goldeneye.

I like all the films but these ones are the best examples of the series.

Most people i talk to all bitch about how they dont like Dalton or how crap they think OHMSS is but if you sit down and watch the films from beginning Dr No to Casio Royal, they will see how good these films really are and how crap some of the ones they really like are. For me i never get why people like You Only Live Twice!! For me it was the start of the stupid big hiding place of the bad guy at the end of each film, up to that point the stories and bad guys could have been real but after this they became laughable bad guys. Daltons films tried to get away from this as has the recent Craig film.

At the end of the day Bond is a thing i grew up with and will always love.

I thought Dalton was excellent too!
The Living Daylights was more of a traditional spy thriller, it's just a shame the baddie was a bit weak (I thought the soundtrack was one of the best of the entire series). But Licence To Kill was a fantastic addition to the franchise. Much darker and more violent, it put Bond in a situation we'd never seen him in before!
Shame Dalton didn't get to do more Bond films...

All the Connery ones are great, except Diamonds which is a bit rubbish, most of the Moore ones aren't brilliant but I like The Spy Who Loved Me and Octopussy. I really enjoy The Living Daylights too, it's one of my faves along side From Russia With Love and Goldeneye.

One point I'd like to make, though, is that the Bond film's direction is often overlooked. Guy Hamilton, who learnt the ropes on The Third Man, and Terrance Young, gave the early Bond films with Connery a real contributing factor to their greatness- in paticular with From Russia with Love and Goldfinger- both of which would not have been as good had they not been directed by who they had been.

You've got some great choices in your list James, apart from Live and Let Die. But hey, no one is perfect!

Infact i think those might be my top 5 Bond films. Thunderball might possibly sneak in.

I must be one of the few people who thinks Moore was the worst. The only two of his i can watch regularly are The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only. But hey what do i know!

I'm thinking about watching Casino Royale again tonight.

I love the Bond series. Ironically, it was the Moore Bonds that I grew up on (and tend to dominate Bank Holidays, ever notice that?), but it's the Connery ones I love most now.

These are my favourite:

Goldfinger - it has everything.
Dr No - the first Bond, and notable for that.
Casino Royale - a real bollock tickler.
GoldenEye - Brosnan suffered from poor movies, but was a really good Bond. Shame his first was his best.
Licence to Kill - an underestimated entry, but one of the more visceral Bonds. Timothy Dalton does well, and the story is great.
OHMSS - another underrated Bond, but has the best ending of any Bond. (Maybe Casino Royale, with the theme finally coming through, comes close, but doesn't beat it.)

Noteworthy - The Living Daylights, A View To A Kill, Live and Let Die. These were childhood staples. I watched Daylights so often I started scrawling 'spiert spionem' on balloons... AVTAK has Christopher Walken, which is always A Good Thing. And Live and Let Die just sticks with me for some reason.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of all of Hamilton's films (don't really like Diamonds are Forever or TMWTGG), but Terence Young was a real talent and I'm sure, without him, Bond would not have been as popular as it was. The novel of From Russia with Love is fantastic stuff, and the film version is one of the finest adapations of a novel I have seen, especially in the spy genre. I would put forward From Russia with Love as one of the most underrated films of all time. In my eyes, it's one of the best spy films ever- a confident, good actor as the lead, a witty and intelligent script, good direction, a great sense of chemistry between the two leads, some icon-creating music and some iconic performances from the supporting cast. And it's actually slightly believable- From Russia with Love is a great film.

I love the Bond movies, always will. I can't say any of them is bad, just some suffer in quality that others.
Tomorrow Never Dies is my favourite, mainly because it's the first Bond I watched start to finish knowing it was Bond, (I caught the tail end of Goldeneye when it premiered on Sky).
I'm also a huge fan of the Moore era, as good and hard edged as Connery was, Moore's were more family entertainment and I always chuckle at his one liners which he delivered brilliantly.

Tomorrow Never Dies: Fantastic PTS, great action scenes, classic scene with Q
The Spy Who Loved Me: Perfect Bond IMO with a great song and a great PTS
GoldenEye: Decent Brosnan effort although he dosen't seem comfortable yet in it and the score is awful...who chose that end credits song? Tina Turner's rocks though.
The World Is Not Enough: Brosnan's best, his only real mature Bond film. Boat chase on thames is fantastic (first Bond I saw in cinema aged 10)
Moonraker: Not as bad as people make out, the PTS has amazing stunt work and the film is very funny, very OTT but I love Moore.
From Russia With Love: Pure Class
Die Another Day: I quite enjoyed this, after about an hour and 30 minutes it does get very silly but up until then it is very good.
Licence to Kill: Very underrated, Bond is a bastard who kills with no mercy and swears quite a bit.
Casino Royale: Sophisticated Brilliance.

Always enjoyed the Bond films.Connerys was best but i think the Brosnan era is very underrated.Tomorrow never dies and The world is not enough are his best films.

I think the character and the series has been ruined by Daniel Craig though.Will never understand how anyone can think hes acceptable as bond.He could have played a Bond villain maybe.Oh well,it was good while it lasted
