Back in the day when Snap sang 'I've Got The Power', this is the kind of thing they had in mind. The mother of all god sims, Black and White let you lord it over the populace as either benevolent deity or vengeful demon. The instrument of your divine will (apart from your powers, innovatively activated with movements of the mouse) was your creature, a furry avatar who could be trained to develop its own personality (whether good or evil) and will alter its appearance to match. That he often spent time hurling poo around or snacking on villagers was just part of the fun.
