The 100 Greatest Games | 79 | Aliens vs Predator II

The crowning achievement of AvP II isn't the blending of two iconic franchises but the fact that it allowed players to assume the roles of both title races and humans in a way that didn't feel forced or artificial. When you were bored gunning down xenos as a Colonial Marine you could hunt humans and aliens alike as the tank-like predator or harvest hosts as one of the acid-blooded aliens. While the thermo-vision and gadgetry of the Predator made him the most fun by far, playing each side was a uniquely rewarding experience and captured the feel of the films far better than either of the cinematic face-offs.

Memorable for...
The marine's motion tracker, taken straight out of the movies, which chirped eerily as aliens closed on your position. "Five metres man. Four. What the hell?"
