The most traditional of dungeon-crawling hack'n'slashers, Diablo II is the star pupil in a genre that's been sullied by a proliferation of pretenders, all of which have failed to capture the addictive bloodshed or charming characters of Blizzard's hellish masterpiece. And while the game failed to earn top scores from critics, this didn't stop Diablo II from becoming an international fan favourite, even earning a place in Guinness World Records in 2000 for being the fastest selling computer game ever, with more than one million copies shifted in its first two weeks on sale. A miracle when you consider you had to play the entire thing (pre expansion) in a blocktacular 640x480 screen resolution.
