Playing as Manny Calavera, a travel agent/Grim Reaper in the Land of The Dead, you must uncover a conspiracy that leads all the way to the Ninth Underworld. As always with LucasArts, the secret to Fandango's success was its superb characters (in this case, the stand-out is Glottis, a big, orange stumblebum demon with a childlike enthusiasm for racing cars), spot-on puzzles and evocative mood. The game's cartoonish design and plot is influenced by films noir such as Chinatown, Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon and Key Largo, while there's Aztec architecture and jazz chucked in too. The mix shouldn't work, but it really, really does.
