While there's never been a shortage of racing titles to sate petrol-heads, the Gran Turismo games are the closest thing to genuine driving you can get without sliding behind a real wheel. Although the first game had an arcade-focused racing mode, the real meat was the simulation option that required players to earn licenses to qualify for events and earn money, trophies and new cars. And with almost 180 vehicles to unlock, Gran Turismo was a dream for automobile afficionados.

Rockin' beats. Rather than a cheesy game soundtrack, Gran Turismo wowed players with contemporary music from the Chemical Brothers, Ash and Feeder, letting players rock while they rolled.
