"We've just run out of wine; what are we gonna do about it?" Withnail

Played By: Richard E. Grant
Film: Withnail & I

Why He's On The List: A magnificent underachiever, some people revel in their bitter self-pity - Withnail, with his well-entrenched upper class upbringing, projects it as his birthright. An unemployable lovely from 1969, his absolute conviction that a) he's a better actor than anyone, and b) he's better than anyone, will forever have us in stitches, as it's in such contrast with his surroundings and predicament. Not so much fun for his put-upon flatmate (a boyish, nervous Paul McGann), though.

Finest Hour: Hamlet in the rain.
